Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost?

Please click here for the latest information on our prices. Some placements offer free accommodation and/or food - please see the relevant placement page, where you'll also find information on living expenses. All Surf Interns must pay for their flights and insurance.

Can I reserve a Surf Internship?
We cannot guarantee reserve your placement until we have confirmed your application with your host company and the arrangement fee has been paid. To pay now click here.

Do I need to pay before my application is confirmed? Why?
For some of our more popular placements, the host company may ask to interview you before they make the final decision. In line with our policy, all prospective Surf Interns must pay their application fee before they have any direct contact with our host companies. In the unlikely event that your application is rejected you will be refunded your application fee minus 20% administration costs.

Do I need to pay a deposit? Why?
Currently only one placement, Ghana, requires a deposit. The deposit is for £50 and is designed to to ensure productivity - or at least to encourage genuine effort. The guys from Ghana have asked us to bring in this deposit as they will invest a lot of their time in training Surf Interns. The deposit will only be refunded on the successful completion of the placement.

Can I cancel my placement?
If you cancel your placement with more than 30 days warning you will be entitled to our refund minus the 20% administration costs. Refunds are not available on cancellations when less than 30 days notice is given.

Will I need a visa?

For the latest information on visa requirements please refer to: www.worldtravelguide.net/country/

How long can I go for?
Please check the relevant pages for information on the duration of placements. However, unless clearly stated otherwiseno placements will last for more than 6 months.

Will I need to bring my wetsuit?

Obviously this depends on the location of the Surf Internship and when you’ll be going out there. For detailed information on water and air temperatures (as well as which thickness of wetsuit they recommend using) visit www.wannasurf.com, select your country from the top and then click on ‘Seasons’.

Do I need to be vaccinated?
For all the latest information on vaccinations please visit www.fitfortravel.scot.nhs.uk/home.aspx

Will I be safe?

Living in a new country always poses new threats, but from our own experience, we've learned that by working and living with locals you will be much safer than if you were visiting as a tourist. Like any trip, a little research and preparation is advisable. Before you go, we'd recommend buying travel insurance (this company offers cover at fair prices www.lv.com) and reading up on the safety sections in travel guides (such as Rough Guides or Lonely Planet). For really detailed travel advice you may also wish to check you government's own advice on travelling (UK residents click here). For our legal policy please click here.

What happens if I’m not satisfied with a placement? Can I get a refund?

Yes. We'll pay you back 110% of what you paid us.
We can offer this because as you’ll see from the contact you’ll have with us that we are totally dedicated to our Surf Internship program – and your satisfaction is fundamental to our success. If we do not think you are suitable for a placement then we’ll tell you - so we hope to avoid this situation from every occurring. If for whatever reason you are not satisfied with a placement you should inform us immediately. We can then mediate between you and your co-workers to resolve the situation or find you a suitable alternative placement if possible.
