Surf Internships' new base in Peru! 10/31/2010
To help us better deal with the huge number of applications we've been dealing with these past few months, Surf Internships will now have one of our own team working, living (and of course surfing) out in Peru. Katie will be spending a year in Latin America, reviewing our placements, scouting for new opportunities and also helping our own Surf Interns get settled into their new lives abroad. She's currently also working with Peruvian surf legend Karin Sierralta at his surf camp in Punta Hermosa (which recently played host to the ISA Cahmpionships 2010). She'll be using this space soon to keep us all up to date on her adventures - so stay tuned. Add Comment Following our soft-launch earlier in the year, Surf Internships has gone from strength to strength. Starting out with a humble four placements on offer in Peru, we now have eighteen placements up and running in ten different countries across five continents. As our slogan goes these internships are 'much more than work experience' they are once in a lifetime opportunities. Don't believe us? Well take your time to look around the site and you'll see why. So we are currently out in Asia at the moment and won't be able to get all this info up on the site until we are back in the UK in a few weeks (after a sweet tour of Japan) but we thought you should all know about some of our latest placements. First up there's Canada. You'll be staying at a cool surf lodge helping out with the running of the place as well as helping teach and organise surf contests. Then there's the chance to get involved in an amazing placement in Algeria (apparently the 'Indo of the Mediterranean'!). Not only will you be helping with surf tours and lessons but you will also be aiding the development of the country's first ever surf association! We'll have more information on these placements up on the site by the end of the month and there's even more placements in the pipeline so stay tuned! As always you can write to us directly at tom@surfinternships.com So if you're looking for a chance to practice your surf cinematography/photography skills whilst also having the opportunity to make the world a better place this might just be your dream Surf Internship! So summer is just around the corner so we thought it’s about time we got in touch to let you know about what we’ve been getting up to. First of all, we are really excited to announce that we now have Surf Internships available in four continents! Whether you want to help a surfer set up his own surf school in Peru, get involved with the world’s biggest Surf Association in California, help out at an ‘girls only’ surf camp in France or experience the excitement of surfing in Ghana we are sure that whatever you decide, doing a Surf Internship with us will be an experience you will never ever forget! Next up is the news that we have now been recognised by the Latin American, Pan American and International Surf Associations! What’s more, Karin Sierralta (vice-president of ALAS & ISA) has been working with us for quite some time to ensure that Surf Internships is providing a truly unbeatable service. We are also currently refining our mission statement which will be with you shortly, but it should be obvious by now that one of our main goals is to help both surf NGOs and other charities which are in anyway related to the world of surf. And we’re stoked to announce that just a few days ago, Dave Aabo, the brains behind WAVES (the Lobitos Surf Internship) was interviewed by Surfer Magazine which you can read here: surfermag.com/travel/reinventing_surf_tourism/ So with summer not far away it’s now time to get your Surf Internship booked as placements are going fast! Finally, if you or your friends run a surf business that would benefit from having the input of our Surf Interns get in contact now. As always, you can contact us by clicking here. So here we are. What started out as a pipe dream is gradually becoming a reality. Just a few months after our deliberately low-key launch we have received an overwhelming amount of interest from people around the world. Whilst this took us by surprise somewhat we have been working round the clock to make sure everyone involved is totally happy with our revolutionary take on surf, travel and work experience. In order to provide you with truly unforgettable experiences in the Surf Industries of the world we are constantly changing and refining Surf Internships.com This blog (along with our Facebook fan page*) will now be our primary way to keep you up to date with all our news, so stay tuned for all the latest news, views and reviews on our placements. Finally, please take a moment to check out the site and let us know what you think. We now even have a flashy new email address: tom@surfinternships.com and can even arrange for meetings via Skype.
